Morse Code Tools is a free Morse code translator. It turns text into Morse code and Morse code into text as you type, reads Morse code from a recording, a video, the microphone or a photo, and plays any message as sound, light or vibration.
Who it’s for
People making a bracelet, a tattoo or a card with a hidden message; people solving a puzzle, an escape room or a game clue; students and scouts learning the code; and anyone who has a string of dots and dashes, or a beep in a video, and wants to know what it says.
How it works
- Everything runs in your browser. What you type, the recordings and photos you load and the sound from the microphone stay on your device and aren’t uploaded.
- The code follows International Morse code as published by the ITU (Recommendation ITU-R M.1677-1), with a few widely used signs that aren’t in that list. Timing uses the standard word PARIS for speed and the ARRL’s Farnsworth timing for extra spacing.
- To read a recording, it finds the pitch of the beep, measures how long each beep and each silence lasts, and sorts them into dots, dashes and gaps. To read a photo, it finds the dark marks, sorts them into lines and works out which gaps separate letters and words.
- Your speed, tone and volume settings are kept in your browser so they’re there next time.
